Café au Play Fundraising Events Highlights

JINGLE MINGLE HOLIDAY SALE, Nov 28 - Dec 20, 2009
Our second annual Jingle Mingle Holiday Sale was a wild success, raising $12,000 and bringing us ever closer to opening our doors at Tabor Commons.
We sold hundreds of local trees, endless cups of cocoa and cider, and delicious treats baked by our talented volunteers. This year, we also started a new tradition of offering unique gifts handcrafted by local artisans. And most importantly, we had the chance to connect with many familiar supporters and welcome new friends to our community.
HOLIDAY TREE SALE Dec 5-21, 2008
For two weeks in December, Café au Play held our first Holiday Tree Sale at Tabor Commons. Customers found a wide variety of beautiful, local trees, as well as hot beverages and delicious, homemade baked goods provided by friends and neighbors. The community showed tremendous support despite the inclement weather, and we earned $6250 toward the Cafe au Play startup fund.

PASS IT ON SALES April & September, 2008
Café au Play participated in both the Spring and Fall 2008 Pass It On event, semi-annual consignment sales for children’s clothes, toys and gear, held in Hillsboro. Thanks to leadership from our board members and generous donations of high-quality kid’s items from families in our community, we were able to earn $762 from the Spring sale and $1200 from the Fall sale.

SPRING BOOKFAIR Mar 8, 2008
This spring, Café au Play partnered with the Lloyd Center Barnes and Noble for a two-day event with live music, magic, story times, and art activities. It was a great success, earning Café au Play $2636 in donations from Barnes and Noble and individuals. A special thanks to the Barnes and Noble staff and Community Relations Manager Erika Kunders, whose enthusiasm and outstanding planning skills made this event come off without a hitch.

MONSTER MOSH Oct 19, 2007
Two hundred costumed revelers filled the downtown First Unitarian Church community center for an evening of dancing, games, raffles, food and drink at the Monster Mosh disco. Thanks to a wonderful turnout and generous support from local businesses, the event raised $1800.

WINTER MARKET AUCTION Nov 24, 2006
Café au Play’s second major fundraiser was held at the Q-Center decked out in an autumn theme of straw bales and pumpkins. The Winter Market auction featured live music, food, wine and beer with the price of admission. Hundreds of donations were solicited from the community including from several major patrons, and the event earned Café au Play $11,500.

CAFÉ AU PLAYDATES Aug - Sept, 2006
Building on the model of the On the Road events, Café au Play partnered with Grand Central Baking Co. and Vita café to share profits from great food, live music and chidren’s activities.
ON THE ROAD WITH CAFÉ AU PLAY Feb - July, 2006
The goal of the pilot program, On the Road with Café au Play, was to demonstrate the need for a special place like Café au Play in our community. We wanted to to see if we could create the kind of experiences we hope to offer families year round, and to find out if this idea would inspire people to offer their talents and resources. Through a series of 6 family-friendly events at People's Co-op, Haven Coffeehouse, Stumptown, Urban Grind, The Creative Space, and Space Monkey Coffee, On the Road did all that and so much more. An average of 90 persons attended each event, dozens of artists and entertainers were mobilized to donate their time and talents, we received great press coverage, and, most importantly, garnered tremendous support and encouragement from the community, including $425 in donations.
A LOVE AFFAIR WITH CHOCOLATE Feb 12, 2005
Our first major Café au Play fundraiser, netting $1944, was held at Elizabeth Leach Gallery. Attendees enjoyed live classical music, select wines, tables of exquisite deserts, and even a lecture on the botany of chocolate.
Café au Play is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
