Thank you all for supporting Café au Play's Spring Bookfair. It was a wonderful event and Café au Play earned a $2466 donation from Barnes and Noble (Lloyd Center)! Thank you Barnes and Noble staff for really getting behind our mission and especially Community Relations Manager, Erika Kunders, whose enthusiasm and outstanding planning skills made this event come off without a hitch.
Congratulations Jen Povich, the winner of the book drawing. Your Fancy Nancy book will be sent directly from Barnes and Noble.
More bookfair photos have been posted. Check them out at www.flickr.com/photos/cafeauplay/ and especially take a look at our new Café au Play t-shirts that all the volunteers were wearing!
A very special thanks to Gretchen and Michael Wooff of Salmon Street Studios http://salmonstreetstudio.com who generously donated their design and hand screen printing services to make our new t-shirts. Gretchen has been with Café au Play from the very beginning and has volunteered at nearly every event. And a little piece of history, we owe Michael credit for our signature name!
A very special thanks to the following performers who donated their time to Café au Play. We truly appreciate Phil, Dena, David and Alex for taking time on the weekend to perform for the community free of charge!
On Saturday, Magician, Phil Crosson, wowed the children with his unique style of magic that combines storytelling and magic. It was so fun to hear the children chanting “reading is magic” and truly believing that these words created magical results. I have never heard so many kids say, “Wow, how did you do that!” during a show. www.magician.org/member/philcrossonstage
On Sunday morning, Dena Wilder combined storytelling and yoga in a touching tale about a child learning not to ask for too much of a good thing (wind to fly his kite). It was inspiring to see how the children and parents interpreted the story with their bodies! Dena also used scarves and songs to teach the yoga moves. www.denawilder.com
David Hall and Alex Carlson of Bee Positive music gave an interactive and heartwarming performance that had the children and parents alike smiling and tapping their feet the whole time. David Hall is truly positive in his approach to music! www.beepositive.net
Thanks to all the Café au Play Board members, Randy Foster (our website guru) and the Hands on Volunteers who work very hard to plan, promote, and staff all of our Café au Play events.
